This book and I had already been through so much. I knew that I could revise, and revise well. I could give this book a shot. What I didn’t know was that it would be nearly eight months before I turned that book in.

It would be five months before I could write at all.

Look, I really love villains.

Voice was always an element of writing that escaped me. It seemed like this slippery, elusive thing that I could recognize in everyone but my own.

When I think about what sets my favorite books apart from the rest, it always comes back to the characters.
