Oh man, it’s been a MINUTE since I updated my website. I meant to post this last month, oops, but my short story Daughters of Silt and Cedars is now live over at Kaleidotrope. I wrote this story close to two years ago–and it was actually the last short story I wrote before I switched my focus to YA novels. I still haven’t gotten back into short fiction, but I have to admit seeing my story pop up on Kaleidotrope does make me miss the form. Maybe someday I’ll pick it up again.
Anyways, this is a very strange story, but I’m still quite proud of it. It’s a dark, bloody, swamp-y, gay as hell retelling of Hansel and Gretel–if Gretel fell in love with the monster when her father abandoned her in the woods. It’s the longest short story I’ve sold so far, and I’m really touched and appreciative that Kaleidotrope loved it enough to give it a home.
The story was also featured in Barnes & Noble’s Short Fiction Round up for July. This is the second time they’ve featured one of my stories and I’m very grateful.
I hope you’re all doing well! I fell out of blogging On Here to focus on other things. I don’t know that I’ll go back to writing posts, but I will try to be better about updating. 🙂 But you can always stay looped in with me on twitter and instagram.
Thanks for reading, and happy August!
